Easiest way to know for sure is to look for a choke on the left handlebar.

Good advice from Munson to check for a choke, this way you know if it's carbureted. Either way, it's worth finding out the VIN # of this bike and either checking online to see it's specs or, running it through a company that can check it's history.

I'm not sure about that. I thought the 1999-2000 F4 didn't have a passenger grab rail. In Europe, starting in 2001 they simultaneously sold the 600F Sport, which is similar to the 2001-2003 F4i sold in the US, and also the regular 600F, which looks like our 2004-2006 F4i, with the one-piece seat. The 600F and 600F Sport had slightly different final gear ratio, as well.
