IIRC i thought that was also the breather?
capping something that was there to start with doesnt sound like a good idea
Not sure if you watch mythbusters but they capped off a port on a water heater and it exploaded like a bomb and took out a house, went through all 3 floors through the roof of 3 stories...
yeah i would be cautious especially if its just a hose, replace it!

no its a metal tube that runs the inside of the tank. the rubber hose just connects to the bottom and runs down the farring. the one he is blocking is only there to drain what comes over the tank opening or water from rain or washing. the other is the vent. its opening is inside the tank not under the cap. but here ya go easy test open the gas cap and blow through the tubes. one will blow air through the hole outside the cap under the ring, the other will hiss inside the tank and also runs to another fitting on the bike under the tank i belive. hell now im getting confused. lol but anyway like i said plug it keep it dry and save 200-800 bucks. use some gas treatment every once in a while lol

If it were mine, I would pull the tank off. Remove the fuel pump to get access to the pipe and see what kind of damage your really looking at. Then weld it up if possible or cut out the bad section of tubing and use some rubber fuel hose like they do on the pump. The way your doing works but It keeps it from working like designed.
