I get the fuel smell still after replacing the FPR w/ a yosh pipe. I want to say my reserve kicks on around 130-140 though so my gas mileage really isn't too bad. I'll be tearing into mine in a couple weeks to check spark plugs, valves, etc.

Default I really really want to know the answer to this...

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have the same issue - only I never get to ride. Thing only runs for 2 or 3 minutes then it fouls the plugs.

PCIII, K&N air filter, Shorty Micron exhaust, iridium plugs.

I clean the plugs, starts and runs for a few minutes, then dies. Won't restart until I clean the plugs again. I'm going to throw a new set in this week some time.

I already replaced the FPR, cleaned as many electrical connections as possible, I think my ground is good but I'm going to re-check it. I also replaced the temp/pressure sensor but no dice.

Somebody got an idea? I know I have to fix the wiring on the thermostat connector but that's about all I got. All suggestions welcome?

start by fixing the wiring at the thermostat. that sensor on the housing is the coolant temp sensor that tells the computer the temperature so it can adjust the air/fuel mixture. without it, the computer will make it go full rich.

Default Thanks 74!

I'll report back when I figure this one out.
You know - I've posted on at least 3 or 4 different boards with the same question and few have bothered to respond. Thanks a bunch.

There's no mention of the temp sensor affecting mixture on the web by the way - though I strongly suspected it. Makes sense.

I'm pretty interested in this topic too, I'm consistently getting 30-35mpg, generally no matter how hard I ride or if it's all highway or locals. I was thinking about getting a new air filter but I'm going to guess that won't do much?

How much is it to replace it or even to get it checked?

how much to replace/check which? air filter, fpr, or coolant sensor? 30-35 mpg isn't that bad.

air filter: if its dirty, replace it
fpr: is you can suck fuel from the vacuum line, its bad
ect sensor, measure resistance across the sensor. 2.3-2.6k ohms at 68 deg. resistance should change with temp.

could be if its relieving fuel pressure back to the tank. you can pinch off the return hose and see if it starts up better. that will boost the fuel pressure up, so don't let it run for long like that.
