Default F4i Regulator/ Rectifier replacement

Hi,
I'm troubleshooting a friends F4i and I believe that the R/R is bad. Actually haven't been able to fully troubleshoot. I've read that the R/R on these F4i's suck and fail regularly. Can anyone tell me what they bought to replace their OEM R/R and how it held up.
Thanks
Bill

I understand the troubleshooting part, I just did it last year on my Hurricane, I just haven't had time to complete the work. It's not my bike, so I don't have access to it. I was just curious if anyone had bought a new R/R for their F4i, and if so, what brand and how is it working. Thanks!

The other part of the thread was suggesting using a different R/R than stock as it gave a better output, didn't get hot, and probably lasted for ever. That part shows up on R1's, newer CBR's, Suzuki's etc...

i used a R/R from a 2002 gsxr on my old f3..it worked but i didnt like having the hack job so i bought one for the bike with cooling fins and never had a problem. if you do go the other route..make sure there are 5 wires...3 are similar and can be placed any where with the yellow wires...then theres just power and ground.

Doesnt our f4i R/R's have the fins as well? I cant see them not lasting long with the fins.
