Default F4i overheating issue

Okay I have read up quite a bit on this but wanted to get some additional input. 01 F4i has 16k on it. On the highway it usually stays around 180. When in heavier traffic can creep upwards of 200. Now when i come to a stop light the temp rises extremely fast. Much faster than it has in the past. One stop light will put me at 210 and if i hit another one will be upwards of 230 and will continue to rise. The fan does kick in. The coolant is full. Besides having a faulty thermostat with it being stuck closed is there anything else this could be? Not sure if water pumps go bad on these things that often. The frame also gets very hot to touch and can often feel heat radiating from the motor.

Thanks

230 is a bit warm. The water pumps do go out. I had to replace mine but when they normally when they go out the leak coolant through the weep hole and then your coolant is low and doesn't touch the switch. This doesn't sound like your problem, sounds like you have bad thermostat. I would start there.

Yeah it will continue to get warm upwards of 250 before i end up shutting it down. My gut leads me to the thermostat but I am trying to pretend its not because of all the fun involved replacing it

You say that the fan comes on so it could be that your rad is plugged (internally), therm stuck closed, WP not pumping enough or at all.

I'd start with checking the thermostat. Put it in a pot and boil some water, see if it opens

I just had an overheating issue too. Sounds like it could be the thermostat, i replaced mine (even tho that wasnt the issue) Its an easy job changing out the thermostat
