F4i: Low oil pressure on idle rpm
Hi,
According to red lamp I've got a low oil pressure on idle on my 2002 F4i with ~40k mileage. It happens only on high temperature (~230F) and idle rpm's (like 1400). I have a normal oil level and original oil filter (I just changed it, to ensure that the problem is not in filter).
Why could this happens?
Thanks!

Couple questions:
Its possible with the wrong oil, the high temp is thinning it out too much. I know you're in Moscow so you'd want an oil that works well in low temps. But what's it rated for in the upper temps?
- Why is your bike hitting 230+ F?
- What weight oil did you put in it?

I'm using 10w40 Motul 7100 and previously didn't have ane issues with it. According to manual it should fit well...
As for hitting 230 - I suppose that it's a normal temperature, my cooling fan is turning on at 228 F. Correct me if it's wrong.
PS Actually we are not riding in Moscow at low temperatures - because its cold and slippery

Hmm... Make sure you're checking the sight glass properly with the bike sitting straight up, not on the kickstand or rear stands. The oil filter is new? What brand / kind? Something odd like that after an oil change and verifying the oil level is right, I'd assuming the filter is defective and put in a new one to see if that changes things.
As for temp, it seems the fan is kicking in a little late to me. Mine kicks in around 224. And I've never hit 230F even when stopped at a light in hot weather. It was 92F today and my bike hit maybe 228F. That's a minor issue for the moment, since you're not hitting overheat. But something to look into in the near future (maybe a coolant flush might be in order).
Try a new filter and see what happens. Make sure you're not leaking oil from somewhere too.

http://www.stephygee.com/f4imanual.zip that's the manual for the F4i. Under Lubrication System there's a how to for testing the oil pressure. All you need is an oil pressure gauge and attachment. Check it out before worrying about it.
