Indeed! Dont intend to myself! Thought that it was about a 16000 mile jobbie for the CBR600 but I'm quite particular about these things but as I mentioned the valve clearances were within tolerance, esp for the age. But regular oil filter changes are key, skimping saving is th biggest false economy ever. My old Citroen AX had done 130k+ and didnt burn any oil as it was well maintained but the torsion bar rear axle fell apart so the labour costs effectively wrote offf the car! [sm=sigh.gif]

Bringing this one back up top.... BTW: does anyone know what the dealership charges(generally) for a valve inspection/adjust on the F4i?

Thanks,
-John

between 200 to 400 for a clearance check...
to adjust...a couple more...usually you can get it all for $400 though cause they're already in there anyway.

it's not really that hard though.

Yeah, the biggest thing is time as you hunt for shims. Some dealer will trade them out, others will order them piecemeal, still others make you buy pre-selected packages. It's all messed up.

I know this is an old thread but I am actually about to do this myself. I am really good with mechanics so I definitely think this is a task I can handle. I also just ordered a factory pro shift kit with the spring, detent arm and shift star so that will be getting done as well.

i checked for clearance yesterday. i had to remove the throttle body, and de-bolt the radiator. Removing the valve cover was a bit of a squeeze. i'm gonna make the adjustments today.

I remember there was a thread on this forum that had instructions on how to do it...but i can't find it anymore. The service manual has a thorough walkthrough. If you use the guide for the RR bikes, then you'll have problems @ intake 4.

25,000 miles without an oil change? sounds like BS. at the stage, the oil is not only ineffective at providing protection but it also is building up gunk.

My bike as 35,000+. the clearance for most of the valves are barely off, and most 3/4 of the exhaust valves are still in spec.

People do it way more often then I'd care to believe. If it was synthetic oil then the oil itself would still be ok although the additives package would be gone. If the person changed the oil filters regularly then sludge build up wouldn't be too bad [although not many people who push oil that far take the time to change filters].
