I got this bike not to long ago. No spark no prime. I am somewhat experienced with electrical and I need some help.
well for starters I downloaded the wiring diagram, due to relays not closing. Found out the tilt sensor had my relays not closing. I have no head light loom. Jumped the red white to ground. Relays open and close now. I looked by my ecm and bl/w wire that comes from the engine stop relay started burning and the solid green wire from grey harness started burning also. So I turned everything off and I have continuous continuity between the bl/w and the ground through the ecm. Is my ecm shorted internally? I’m lost for words now. I removed the pin and verified the bl/w wire was 12v in but it’s burning when plugged in. I did notice that when attempting to plug the bl/w wire in that that fi light comes on but I can’t hold it on there long enough to read the code it stays solid. Please help

 

@Harris_1996 Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think I've ever thought an ECM was bad, but I think you have the definition of a bad one. Can you check if you have continuity from the pin (Pin 6 where the Gray connector goes in) in the ECM to the pin where the Green wire plugs in? Naturally this would be while the connectors are unplugged and power off.

 

I checked from the 6 pin to the green wire pin and it has continuity

 

Hmm, just looked at mine and I'd have to remove the tail cover and disconnect the battery to make that check. I suspect that it shouldn't be ZERO ohms.

Does anyone have easy access to their ECM and a meter who could make this check easily??

If no one chimes in, I'll check it this weekend.

 

The meter showing zero means same line of power. Or shorted. If you can please check! I would really appreciate it.

 

Yes, I'm fully aware of what the reading means. I would just be surprised if it is supposed to be a dead short between those two points.

 

@Harris_1996 Well I took my tail section off and made the same check on the ECM. I'm sorry to say, your ECM is dead. You're reading a dead short.

Yes you can, let us know back here how you get on and that it's back on the road. Also, you might want a replacement wiring harness if the short melted the wires. Good luck.
