Default Exhaust stud opinions requested

New F4i owner here with a problem. When I got done riding I would notice that I had a very strong exhaust smell on my clothes. The bike started to get louder and tick loudly. Pretty soon the temp was climbing quicker than it should. I figured I should solve this issue. A deeper inspection revealed that both header nuts were missing from cylinder 3. Exhaust was blowing past the pipe and directly onto the radiator any then on up on me.

Easy fix I thought. Ordered the honda nuts and got around to trying to install them today.

Problem: The lower exhaust stud on cylinder 3 is backed out a ways. I am not sure what the best approach to this is. Jam nuts and back it out or screw it in? Snapping it and having to do a more technical work to drill it out and re-tap is my biggest fear.

The stud was backed out far enough I could not get a flange nut on it. So, I pulled all the remaining nuts so I could get a closer look and take this picture.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Mike

Just throwing out my opinion, I would try and screw it back in, if it came out that far from just vibrations, theres a good chance you'll be able to get it to go back in decently easy. Afterall, its going to have to go back in anyways eventually right? And IF it did break, i think it would break right past the end of the first threaded part and it wouldnt be too hard to get the broken part out since there should at least be a stub. And I know you dont want to tap in out if it came to that, but its really not hard dropping the radiator and you would have straight shot. And like I said, it only makes sense that it should be easy to get it to rethread (but thats in my brain lol).
good luck and keep us updated

Thanks for the reply. I picked up a couple hex nuts over lunch. I will try it tonight and let you know. I had to order 4 new exhaust gaskets so I threw a couple studs on there also just in case.

Shocked it with a firm hammer blow before I started and she screwed right back in with almost finger pressure only. Thanks!
