Default Engine stops when shifting from neutral...

Faced with a bit of dilemma that I'm hoping someone has come across...

I'm checking out a salvage 2001 CBR600 F4i that had been laid on it's side (plastic damage only.) I started it up and everything seems to function and sound fine. However when you shift the bike out of neutral (either to 1st or 2nd) the engine stops. It's not stalling the engine it just kills it electrically. With a little more playing around I found that you don't have to complete the shift for it to stop; if you move the shifter just enough so that the neutral light goes out and 1st/2nd gear light illuminates that too kills the engine.

There's gotta be a saftey mechanism/switch somewhere that maybe got damaged in the accident. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance....

Ther's something I didn't even think about.

I did have the stand down - so that means no shifting out of neutral.

Last bike I had was an 82 Nighthawk 650... IDIOT!

Thanks

Sounds like the kickstand safety switch got damaged in the wreck. Did the bike go down on the left side?

Yes there's left side damage. Gotta be the problem...
