fuel level makes no difference, as long as the level is above the fuel pick up on the pump.

Funny, I was just wondering the same thing this morning. I knew I was low, but my reserve hadn't come on it. So this morning when I tried to start up, she just cranked for about 5 seconds and didn't want to ignite so I let off. Then waited a second, and tried again and she started. As soon as I had my gear on and was ready to go my reserve popped on. I also need spark plugs badly, so it's hard for me to tell whether low fuel or spark plugs is my problem.

low fuel on a FI wont give it hard time starting, eather its so low theres no gas, or its high enough to be picked up by the fuelpump and your low gas guage will come on. odds are plugs. Another thing is if valves aren't opening and closing properly due to being out of adjustment, that could be your issue also.
