I guess it really depends on the kind of riding you do.

If you commute, then patching probably isn't bad. If you track/canyon carve and are seeing high speed and/or high tire temps, it's a whole lot cheaper to replace the tire than it is to replace the bodywork/leathers/helmet/etc.

Good performance tires ridden the way they were meant to be ridden don't last that long anyway.

I opted for a new tire. I tried to put air into the tire and since it wouldn't hold any pressure I thought the damage was not patchable. I am a new rider so maybe I just didn't know.
