DIY: CCTL Stopper Tool
Ok guys. When replacing the cylinder head on my F4i, I have decided that I'm going to need the stopper tool that's mentioned in the honda manual. After much of frustration with calling numerous motorcycle shops and honda dealerships and not being able to purchase the sucker anywhere, I have decided to take a trip to a local Home Depot in order to get the stuff I need to make the tool on my own. I have used the honda manual to get the exact dimensions of the tool (see the pics below).
What I have used:
- honda manual (to get dimensions of the tool)
- 9in strap tie (pictured) for $0.72 @ home depot
- metal cutter
- marking pen
- ruler
Here is what the strap tie looks like (you can use any other metal plate but make sure that it is thick enough so it wont bend when using the tool. The honda manual recommends one to be 1mm thick):
Here are the things I have used (except for the pencil. I have found a pen to work better on metal):
You need at least 4cm of solid metal plate, so I have marked it and made the cut:
Now, the crucial part. Make sure you measure and draw the outline on the metal piece precisely. I have kind of screwed up with it, but it still worked at the end:
Make the cut (be precise):
This is what it should look like:
Hope this helps!

The Stopper Tool is mentioned in the Honda manual and it's role is to retract the spring-loaded rod on the CCTL in order to gain some slack on the chain. Removing the CCTL does the work, but it's impractical and sometimes a pain in the butt to get the CCTL reinstalled. Hope this answers your question.
