Default Undertail

Hey all,

I just piced up a 2006 F4I about two weeks ago. I love almost everything on the bike, almost. I really cant stand the lisence holder, or even the way the undertail is designed. HotBodies kit looks like complete garbage. Werkes is strictly a relocator, and does not change the undertail.

My question is, what other brand or companies offer kits? If there isnt any, Im going into the parts biz.

Would you really want to get into a "shrinking" business? Obviously there is a mkt but putting together a business plan and trying to gain VC dollars on this model would be difficult. On the other hand, if you want to service a shrinking mkt on a small scale, as in no overhead working outta garage it may work. How much would a dye cost? Fiberglass work is pretty easy and cheap to do with good results. Not sure you can recoup the elbow grease dollars. It would cost too much and no one would buy it. I look at my 01 and feel I could do something cheap and easy but it would likely look like it

i've seen ones made out of sheetmetal, that look decent and retain the factory tail light. and you could alway put a layer of fiberglass over the sheetmetal.

i don't like the undertails that replace the taillight personally

Hmm. I would probably make one out of fiberglass before I made one out of sheetmetal. Nice comment tho

Reinvent the wheel much???

Undertails/FE's for the F4i, both split-seat & banana seat, have been developed & produced ad nauseum. There's more than enough options out there. Do your searches...both here on the forum & elsewhere as _Z_ recommends. If you don't find a production kit that you like, make your own. <--- There's instructions ad nauseum for that on the forum as well.

When my F4 was still a banana seat version, I made my own from sheet metal, cut to shape & painted. I did a write-up on here somewhere. It was inexpensive & functional. After I did the split-seat conversion, I went w/a Competition Werkes FE kit. Although not inexpensive, it is quality stainless-steel, included all hardware, installed easily, & is rock-solid.

Anyway, hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck.
