hey not to add more fuel to the fire...but if you check the chain slack recommended from chain manufacturer's, they're usually tighter than what bike manufacturer's recommend...what then? i take the average.

thanks, i'll loosen the chain up to 1-1/4" slack before i ride tomorrow or sunday.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

What is interesting is my manual says something different than the sticker taped to the chain guard.

I also heard that you should be measuring slack when you are sitting on the bike and it is in regular riding position, not when you are off the bike and the suspension is unloaded.

It's ok to do it with the suspension unloaded.

reset the chain slack to 1 1/4". when i sit on the bike and reach down and check i still have at least a half inch of slack. i hope this is alright. cheers

Use your eye and get a feel for it. I normally go by if i can move the chain up and down and it move a bit farther than the hieght of the chain and you can feel that its not binding tight but not really loose.

Leaving your chain a little too loose wont hurt anything dramatically. Just dont make it to tight because you will get this binding sound and it will be stretching the chain alot faster than normal
