Chain lube...

Chain lube...
Now i know you all are thinking, "not this again" but this isn't about what kind of chain lube you use. i don't care about that. What i've come to notice is that in the F4i manual and on the D.I.D chain box it says to lube the chain with 80w-90, or some other heavy gear oil. Now if the motorcycle and the chain company recommend you lube with these products than why does everyone insist on using name brand "chain lube, chain wax, ect." Wouldn't you think the manufacturer would know whats best for their chain? Whats the deal? And again, this isn't about what you use... please don't post your favorite lube brand.

RE: Chain lube...
I use 90w gear oil on mine.... probably the best lube I've ever used of all the commercially available spray on chain lubes and waxes I've tried (quite a few). Gear oil is a bit messy while lubing the chain, and does fling some the first ride after lubing, but it keeps the chain extremely clean and you won't find much that lubricates better. After the first ride you get little to no fling and the chain and sprockets stay spotless. I love it and won't use anything else I haven't had to adjust my chain once since I put it on.... been probably 8-9k miles now

RE: Chain lube...
Everything I've read and been told is that with o-rings chain, the main thing is corrosion protection, not lubrication.
So I use an aviation producta corrosion and anti-wear additive called CamGuardmixed with a 10W50 multiweight oil. Nothing magic about it; I just happened to have it around. With a very light coat, it doesn't sling enough to notice.
I also clean the chain frequently, like twice a month, with either kerosene or a mineral solvent.I tryto do the cleaning and lubing with a warm chain, which is supposed to give better results.
