Default CCT replacement

Started hearing the rattle myself at different times. I took my bike to a friend who does repairs and sure enough the CCT need replacing. I only have 6.5K miles on my 02 F4i so this was a surprise but maybe not from what I've read on this forum.

Does anyone know the purpose for the adjustment of cct on the 2001 model year during a valve shim measurement ?
it seems that the 2001 year must be slightly dif. my manual says i need a special tool (or 1 can be made)to adjust the cct during the shim measurement. i would like to know exactly what is going on when i make this adjustment. i cant understand why u would allow chain slack with this model year and no others.(if in fact thats what it does??)
Thanks Mark.

hey everyone. read the forum and looks like my CCTL needs to be replaced. ( 01 f4i 14k miles) I would like to do it my self but this is my first bike and I dont know much about them. after looking at the pic's and directions posted it doesn't seem to hard. I'm just wondering what the consequences are if it is installed incorrectly? will i completely ruin the motor? could something go wrong wile riding ? any advise is appreciated. just trying to be extra careful.
Thanks Joe

Somewhere on the web there used to be a write about how to properly adjust the manual tensioner. There was a formula that went along with it. Does anyone recall where I can find it. I'm not sure if it was here or over at cbrworld but it would be really helpful if I could find it.

It described how to measure the old CCTL and where the wear mark is and that will tell you how far you need to set the new manual tensioner.

andrewsi:

I just replaced mine two days ago I bought the OEM and it worked out great. I was having the same problem as you noticing the noise throughout all rpm's and it was loud!!! After some research I guess I went with the OEM one so I did not have to adjust it myself.

Dumb question... does the type of oil make a difference? ie conventional vs. synthetic regarding the operation of the OEM CCTL. I changed my second one in the last 4000km. It was running fine. I just did an oil change for the season to synthetic and it's louder than ever.. I'm not sure what's going on.

Thanks
