Default Cam chane tentioner

Anyone replaced chane tentioner recently? I have a 01 F4i and have 23500 miles on it. I have never replaced the tentioner and I think it is going bad because I hear raddling change noise when I rev. I do push my bike hard and I know it depends on how you ride your bike but how long does this suppose to last??

most likely no over 12K or so stock.

it's just noisy, not necessarily going bad.
do a seach on the subject and lots will come right up...maybe this needs to be a sticky or something.

yup! time 2replace the cct. its really simple if you go oem. but there are a bunch of people on the board who live by aftermarket cct(ape) the oem will give you about 5000 miles. the ape will never fail, but you have to stay up on adjusting it every 1000 miles or so. personally, i like the oem(one less thing to worry about for 5k miles) but if you like digging into your bike (removing tank, throttle bodies, fitting ur hands into tight places) more often then you have to, then get the APE. plus, with the APE, you run the risk of over tensioning the cam chain and having it break on you.

<---- Over 6K on the APE without adjustment. You only need to adjust it when the noise comes back, and that is usually long after your 2nd or 3rd OEM has gone **** up.

unless you do the mod to the OEM...cause it's not the cam chain slapping around that's making the noise, it's the stupid OEM 2 piece shaft design....so in all truth, it's not failing, it's just noisy.

I know I still have my old one around somewhere. Maybe I can get a local welder to tig it up for me. Then I just have to find someone who wants to try it.

With my luck it would lock my motor up at full lean in a corner.[:@]

so...
either get the ape and use threadlocker and don't worry aobut adjusting it or mod the oem and don't worry about it....

either case you'll need to get in there sooner or later because the noise will drive you nuts.
