Default Both headlights went out today

Hey guys, I started up my 02 F4i today and noticed that both my low beam and high beam lights were out. I haven't started the bike up since Saturday. The lights on the dash are working, and so are all the turn signals and brake lights. The bike started up fine and stayed on with no problem. I am wondering if the fuses could be bad or both headlights coincidentally went out at the same time?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Check fuses, but if you find a bad fuse...

Also, follow the wires from the headlights,
looking for worn/frayed spots, bad connections, etc.
There's usually a reason why the fuse blew.

Double-check the hi/low switch connections/contacts to be sure it isn't the weak link.

Good luck, Ern

Had this happen to my f4i, make sure the starter button comes all the way back.
If it stickes the lights wont come back on.

Had this happen recently. For me it was a quick fix, I sprayed a little dry lube (many have used WD40) into the switch while working the starter lever (with the ignition off). Now works like a champ.

^ The starter button contacts issue has been problematic for both the F4 & F4i. Not saying that's the exact cause in OP's case but its def worth mentioning as part of the troubleshooting process.

You guys were right, it was the starter button sticking! I didn't spray any lube into it, just pushed it all the way forward with my finger and the lights came right on. So glad it was a quick fix. And I'm very thankful for these forums. You guys are a huge help.

However, there is another minor hiccup. I looked at my brake lights and noticed that my left tail light cap was missing! Guess it flew off or something...anyone know where I could find a replacement? I have attached a picture.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Cool glad it was an easy fix, on the light cover thats an aftermarket part not oem.
You need to find out what kind of undertail it is and see if you can get parts.

Glad you figured it out. The wd40 "fix" is a good one... I've done the same. Just spray a shot in there & you'll be good to go. That way, you shouldn't have to worry about it sticking.

Sorry, don't know of where you could get a replacement - other than the orig producer.

Yeah I have no idea what brand undertail it is. Im thinking of just ordering replacements from another company and swapping both of them out.
