Bolt in CCT

Bolt in CCT
I have read other posts about some owners inserting a bolt into the rear of their Cam Chain Tensioner, and I just wanted to add some info.
Be VERY CAREFUL when tightening the "Home Depot" bolt in. I had the CCT which i pulled out of the bike when i replaced with another. I inserted a bolt as stated in quick fix, and continued to tighten. I wanted to see of far i could go, and BAM, the "plunger" and all the other guts exploded out the end. The end which would be INSIDE your motor.
So, moral of the story, DO NOT tighten very far, only enough to apply pressure. There is only a little metal ring holding the assembly together.

RE: Bolt in CCT
No need for pics, I am just adding info.
I would hate to hear about someone cranking a bolt into the rear of their CCT and pushing all the internals out. Would hate to have to take the Cam Chain cover off, just to get the pieces out. I'm no mechanic but that doesn't sound like fun.

RE: Bolt in CCT
yeah, and in reality all the bolt will stop is the plunger itself from rattling on the body of the CCTL...with the way the CCTL works you can't force it to push out that way to apply more pressure to the CCT(the guide that pushes on the chain). The CCTL works with a "spring loaded bolt" (wish I could describe it better, maybe Tahoe can) and as there is "slack" allowed, the spring turns the "bolt" and extendes the plunger. Think if it this way, putting that bolt in the end of the CCTL would be like you pushing on any old bolt, you can't get it to go in any further untill that bolt you are pushing on turns.
I wish I had a better way to say that....it is easy to understand if you have taken apart of CCTL and figured out how it works, then it would all click in your head.
