I am hearing a loud clicking coming from the front sprocket almost as if it is binding up. The chain tension is good, about a thousand miles on the chain and sprocket, and I have lubed it so I am thinking its not a chain problem. It almost sounds internal but I may be over reacting. My roommate swears it's normal but I do not remember the loud almost clunking and not so much the low fizz sound it makes when you spin the rear tire. There does not seem to be any problems while riding, seem being the operative word. Anybody have any ideas

 

double check the alignment on the drive chain and sprockets.

 

Check the chain tensioners and make sure that they are even and aligned. Also your chain might be too tight make sure there is a little slack in it. You might even want to take your chain guard off and make sure there is nothing in there.

 

How do I check the alignment. I dont think its a problem of being too tight because when I loosen up the chain to where it has a few inches of play I will still hear the noise

 

Spin your tire while it is on a stand and look at the sprocket running through the chain make sure it is as centered as you can get it. Also chains can have tight spots if you have your chain to tight and it gets to the tight spot then it could just be pulling on it to hard.

 

there are notches on the swing arm where the tensioners are, make sure the tensioners are in the same place on both sides because if its crooked then it will bind. If that checks out fine i am about out of ideas. Maybe transmission

 

Ya I check the tensioner measurement with a caliper. The problem I am running into now is that if I loosen up the chain a little bit the sound goes away but it is WAAAY to much slack to be riding with. The moment I tighten it up just a little bit the sound comes back. Someone said something about the transmission, if that is the case any ideas as to what would be wrong in the transmission

 

sounds like a chain problem. mine was doing this not to long ago. mileage would help identify problem. I ended up replacing the sprockets and chain. popping noise from chain binding, mine would do it accelerating from low speeds.
