Default Bike won’t run in gear

Hi

i have a cbr600 f sport / f4i

i got it running after sitting for a couple of years and now when I put it into 1st gear with the kickstand up the bike stalls straight away. I have checked the side stand switch which is working fine and I have also checked the clutch switch which is also working fine. Is there anything else that I need to check or is there anything else that might cause the issue. Maybe a wiring fault somewhere? But not sure where to start with that

cheers for any help

Dan

Hey there. I would check the kickstand switch. It may be failing. It's a fairly easy thing to do. Basically you are applying a jumper wire to the contact points forcing it to act in the "up position".

hi. did you check side stand switch with a multimeter ? if it's ok i would check continuity of Green/White wire between side stand switch and the ECU socket

Hi

yes i checked with my multimeter on continuity . I will try to trace the cable later today and see if any of the wires are damaged. I did link the terminals in the green plug but the engine still stalled when I put the bike into gear.

cheers

Just tested the green plug from the bike side and I am getting 5v between the pins , not sure if that’s correct or it should be 12v ? Hopefully that might narrow the problem down

cheers

The Side Stand Switch is providing a ground path on Pin 21 (the Green/White wire). With the Side Stand in the up position you should have continuity from that Green/White wire to frame ground, or the Neg terminal of the battery.

Update
So, I was doing a check on my ECM for another person with a suspected bad one. I went ahead and checked from the Green/White wire to the frame and with the Side Stand in the up position, it had 0.0 Ohms (good continuity). With it down, it read about 1.8 K Ohms.

hi. could you check for this continuity (ohms reading) .

A - Green/White wire at ECU socket
B - Green/White wire at side stand switch ( bike side )

Hi just a quick update.

i tested the green to earth - all good
I tested the green/white to pin 21 ecu - all good

bike still cut out as soon as I put into 1st gear

started bike in 3rd gear and it stayed running so went down to 1st gear and it stayed running.

i then turned the bike off and restarted it in 1st gear and it ran perfectly

so not excactly sure what I did or it needed to be started in 3rd gear first but it’s running perfectly now

thanks for all the help

Dan
