Bike will not run after starter button released

Bike will not run after starter button released
Hello all,
I am looking for further advice on a previous post I made regarding my 2001 cbr600f4i, (bike starts fine on the button but as soon as you release it the bike dies), I have disconnected the starter switch and checked for continuity etc...all is well there as is the starter relay.
I tried checking for shorts to earth by connecting my continuity tester to an earth on the bike then checking all wiring out of the switch.....am i mistaken thinking that the only wires that should show continuity are earths, (grounds)?
I had 3 of the 4 wires testing positive for continuity like this.
Am i completely off track here?
