BBQ'ing my butt
Hi Folks,
Purchased a used 2001 F4i a few months ago, great bike 100% stock. Fun on the track and commuting.
I have a 20 mile 1 way commute, 98% freeway. Coolant temp runs about 180 - 200 during the ride, then goes up to about 220 when I get back on surface streets.
Anyway, when the temp reaches 180+ the seat and surrounding area starts heating up. By the time I park the frame around the tank is so hot I can't touch it for more than about 1 second.
I've flushed and refilled the coolant and it didn't make any difference.
Has anyone run into this before? Having a hot butt in the middle of So Cal summer heat just isn't a winner.
Thanks,

i noticed that is your first post, welcome to CBRForum.com
To your topic, yes we all experience this every once in a while, cause hondas run hot. it isnt bad, its normal. i vary from 178-226* driving around this summer
*Fan usually kicks in on the F4i around 224-226

on the freeway and cruising, i stay around 180, never goes over 180 on the freeway. When I get into traffic and on slow roads it'll climb to about 220 and the fans kick on. If you're over 200 on the freeway something is wrong.
I had this problem also. My wife went and bought me a set a Corbin seats and it really reduced the amount of heat on your backside. It didn't eliminate it, but reduced it a lot. The bike is gone, but the front seat remains in my garage. Check out my other post where I am trying to sale the seat(FS '01-'03 F4I Corbin Seats) if you are interested.
the reason the frame and every thing else gets hot is because there aluminum. aluminum disperses heat extremely well its normal for the frame and other aluminum parts to absorb the heat of the engine.
I sweat in 60 degree weather and when I ride with shorts on my bike the sides of the tank get all nasty with sweat from my legs and then it gets all dry and gross and yea..... hahahahaha Wearing pants is hot but saves me from the nastiness! =P

Sweat dries quicker than road rash heals. But hey, it's your skin.
My Corbin Saddle makes a HUGE difference in the heat radiating to my butt. They are definitly worth the money.
