Default Battery issue??

Just bought a 2002 f4i. Previous owner said that it had a new battery but the bike will not hold a charge. Even if i bump start it and ride it, and then shut it off, the bike will not start. The clock on the guage cluster resets too. Does this seem like the bike needs a new battery or does it sound like another issue? Thanks!

p.s. Just rode it lastnight and it fired right up, when i went to open the garage and ride the bike inside for the night, it wouldnt start.. theres enough juice for the lights but as i hit the starter, the battery just clicks

Look at the battery. Is it new or old? you should be able to tell. Put a volt tester on it.

A new battery that won't hold a charge means your stator has pooped on you.

Make sure all the connections are tight.

I just bought a 2001 F4I and I just had the same exact problem. The battery wont even hold a charge. After some research, I think that it may just be the battery. I found a cheap replacement one in town that I am going to install tonight. That should solve the problem.

look around on the forum. there are some more posts about this. try checking your voltage regulator or stator. that could make the battery not hold its charge. it happened to me. it ended up being my voltage regulator and it was a cheap fix.
