Default Battery issue?

I have unfortunatly not been using my bike much lately for a number of reasons....When I go for a ride every 2-3 weeks I find that I sometimes have to jump start the bike off a charger.

The battery is only 3 years old; has not been left in the bike over the winter.

I took the battery out and put it on the charger and the charger claims it is at 90% still but it would not start the bike - however with a jump she will start right up.

Is my battery somehow pooched or is there something else I need to worry about. (note that I did notice that there seems to be a slight bulge on one side of the battery).

Thanks,

Sounds like your battery is bad....put a voltmeter on it while cranking and watch how low it goes.

^ I concur. Sounds like you'll need to replace it.

BTW, for reference & documentation, what is the brand & model # ?

Its an Energizer.....on a voltmeter what readings should I get while cranking?

I will have to borrow one to test it on a start but on the charger it reads at 13.6 while fully charged. That seems a bit low to me but I don't know much about batteries.

Standing voltage will read ok, especially right off a charger. When you hit the starter, the load will most likely kill it. If it drops below 10v, its done.

Take your battery back where you bought it & ask them to replace or pro-rate it on a replacement.

I've seen cheap battery on eBay...once in a while, some as cheap as $25 shipped. At $30 shipped is always available....

How much battery cost at Walmart? There's a new walmart opening near my area this August....

A new battery at walmart in Canada is 117$ plus tax

Nice thing is that walmart is where I bought this one - went in with my recept (bought it just over two years ago), asked them if it had a warenty, and walked out with a brand new battery.

Sometimes I get lucky.
