Battery Died
Yesterday on the way back from work I stop to gas her up & the bike refused to start. The battery was dead. Jump started her & all was fine. Now before the battery died I was stuck in traffic for about 20 min with my highs on at around 10-20 mph. Could this have caused it ?
Have to ask, can being in the sun all day long cause the battery to die, somebody told me ??
The battery had died once before in Jan 07 & it was cause it was sitting for about a month. Got her recharged from the dealer, never had a problem since.
My bike's a 06 with about 7000 miles on her, is it time to replace the battery already.
Thanks
Ashish H.

RE: Battery Died
time to replace? Not a chance. Hot weather, being in traffic, using high beams, etc... will wear the battery down quickly. Once you've idled for so long in traffic with hi beams, once that fan kicks on and is running, the odds of your battery dying are good. Don't run with the high beams on during the day when traffic is thick. Happened to me a lot. I stalled out in a traffic jam once.
Heres what you do in a jam though...
Put the bike in first gear, stand next to it, put up the kickstand, hold in the clutch, have the key turned to "On" and have the fuel pump on.
Run as fast as you can with the bike, try to get it up to 10 MPH or so, hop on the bike and pop the clutch. She'll start up. Sometimes a jump isn't always around. I've done this a few times.

RE: Battery Died
Yeah I had battery problems a while ago and it turned out to be the regulater. If you don't have any more problems then dont bother getting a new battery. Mine got to the point where it was dying often so I had to get it looked at, but I wouldn't bother if it's a one off thing.
I had to jump it constantly and I found being in second gear was easiest. Also I'm tall enough to get the bike going fast enough while sitting on it. I can't believe how easy these things are to jump!
