Default 520 Conversion?

I was wondering how big of a difference a 520 conversion makes? I have an 01 F4i. I am also in the process of doing the 600RR swingarm swap (reason for buy the chain and sprocket kit because it was a little more than just the chain itself). Will the 520 kit drastically change my MPH readings also? any advice on how-to, or anything would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!!

520 kit itself wont do anything to your gauge reading....520 is just the size of the chain. If you are talking about changing the sprocket tooth size then it will affect the gauge reading. Changing to the 520 size, you lose a little bit of weight from rotating mass, but the chain is not as strong. There is not really a noticable difference, therefor, I didnt do it when I went -1, +2, just kept the stock size, which is 525.

I am getting a kit that is a 520 conversion kit on the chain pitch but i wanted to know what size sprockets to go with. I like wheelies but they aren't my main priority. I think that if i go -1+2 i will be fine. That way i can ride normally but be able to pull it up in 2nd gear if i want to. Most of my daily riding is under 60 MPH. Also, what is a speedohealer? what does it do and where can i get one? I'm guessing that going -1/+2 sprocket size will mean that i need the speedohealer?

-1 +2 will be fine. Get a Speedohealer so your speedometer and odometer will stay normaly. A quick Google search will yield some places to buy them.

+1^ 520 is width not pitch. You will never notice a difference between the 520, 525, 530 (width). The wider, the stronger (chain tensile strength). The lack of rotating mass comes from the aluminum as opposed to steel sprocket.

IMO go w/ the stock 525 size and go -1,+2 sprocket size. This will throw your speedo off quite a bit and rack up unecessary miles, so you will need a speedohealer. Simply plug n play install. You can find them on ebay for $109. That sprocket size describes exactly what you are looking to get.

The words "520 kit" most commonly refers to a new set of sprockets (front and rear) and chain, all in a 520 size width. Chains come in different widths for different reasons, 520 being the smallest and lightest. When you change a chain width, you need matching sprockets as well (it's also best to replace all these items at once, so if one is ready to be replaced, do them all). Most people change the sprocket gear ratios to help boost low-end torque, giving the bike more burst of speed out of the gun, but a lower top end. Most common ration is -1 front and +2 rear (stock is 16/46 teeth).

The F4i stock is 525, 520 really gives no benefit except being lighter. Some say the lightness of the chain and sprockets makes less turning mass for the motor, so it can spin up quicker, but the difference it makes will be very subtle, and should only be really concerned by racers.

Hey thanks man!

On a side note, I do web dev stuff of the side. I'd love to do a couple of videos or how-tos on some mods I have planned. I'll let you know when i've done some.
