520 Chain/sprocket
Ok i bought the 520 kit for my bike. I have fitted one to my VTR before with no problems but i have a problem with this one.
If you blip the throttle when the speed unloads it sounds like something is grinding or slapping. Even when the chain is as tensioned as i can get it the same thing.
I have turned the front sprocket round just in case i'd stuck that on wrong but didn't help.
So i'm now a little confused. any suggestions would be great.

it may be the rear brake rotor's and calipers rubbing together, maybe something got misaligned in the whole process, its kinda unlikely, but it was the first thing I though of, because I have had that happen before when I have the rear tire off.
Perhaps the chain is skipping the teeth. The 520 sprocket should only fit one way. It has a lip that gives the proper spacing.
I had a wierd issue when installing a 520 kit where they sent me a 525 rear sprocket. Darned thing wouldn't grab the chain.

i'm installing a 520 kit on my wife's 01 f4i and i have a problem with the frt sprocket spacing. when i tighten the end bolt/washer the sprocket isn't snug. it has about 1mm of play back and forth on the shaft. haven't figured out why yet. the oem and 520 sprocket measure the same thickness. maybe you have the problem? wouldn't hurt to check.
Yeah i have the same gap with my front also. dont know if thats normal or not either. The front sprocket fits either way but one way kicks the chain out of line by a couple of mm just by the way the on sprocket spacers are made.
i did some research on the front sprocket spacing at it seems that some float is normal, it's not supposed to be tight. what kind of condition is your chain in? how much tension or lack of tension do you have in the chain? if the chain is binding or too loose it can cause noise on decel. def chech that sprocket cover spacer to make sure it hasn't dropped in and rubbing on something.
I have zero play or slop on my front sprocket. I didn't know that it was designed with some movement, but if the service manual says so, then that's the way to go.
Hey guys,
problem sorted...... i think. i checked out the front sprocket and looked at where the chain was riding on it and it was hitting high and not on the valleys of the sprocket like its supposed to. so after a few phone calls turns out the front was wrong part, so new one on way and hopefull that should fix it.
Thanksto allfor the info and help
