Default '01 F4i Brake light problem

The right brake light bulb doesn't light up when the brakes are used but works in the left socket & the the left bulb's brake filament doesn't light up in the right socket. Anyone else else have this problem? I'm hoping it's something simple, l'd rather not try the impossible task of tracking down a broken wire... Battery isn't being drained, so l don't think it's a short
Thanx in advance for any suggestions

You've verified both bulbs are OK.

1. measure voltage at brake-power terminal on both sockets. Probably find no power on right socket.

2. inspect closely brake-power circuit backwards from socket to upstream.

3. make sure wire is actually to terminal in bulb socket

4. trace that wire upstream where grn/yel wire splits off to left & right sides. Only short section

5. if nothing obvious, measure resistance of grn/yel wire from Y-split to terminal on right socket. Ohms = ??

6. as confirmation test, measure resistance of grn/yel wire from Y-split to terminal on left socket. Ohms = ??

This is 5-min fix with multimeter, often less than that

Thanks, Danno. I tracked it down. There was a set of red reflectors riveted to the tail section on each side and I drilled out the rivets to remove them. The wire loom for the tail section runs right on top of the rivets, so...

OUCH. At least it was an easy find. Glad I've never done anything of the such...

Don't take that the wrong way. I don't think I used the right emoji. I have done it plenty myself.

I didn't take it the wrong way & that was a great emoji! I'm the first one to call out my own idiocy and my only consolation is that I had no idea the wires were there. If I had known that, I would have used a blow torch to melt the rivets!!
