Yet another charging problem...
Alright before I start I found a trouble shooting chart that Im going to go thru in depth tommorow. I just figured it wouldnt hurt to ask and see if anyone had this same trouble. Bike died on me the other day while riding. Battery was dead. Got it home and started doing some checking with the voltmeter( after charging the battery). According to what Ive read my readings were right on( .2-.5 ohms between the 3 yellow wires, 50v coming from stator when testing for AC with bike running etc.)But checking current at the battery, Im not getting any rise in voltage to the battery during revs(5000-6000 rpms). Matter of fact I can tell the battery is slowly losing voltage while its running. And I just replaced the R/R about 3 months ago with a good aftermarket replacement. Has anybody else had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you're not getting a rise in voltage to a max of about 14.7/14.8-ish, then I would
revist the r/r. Here's a couple of comprehensive diagnostic links....

So I took off the tank just to quick check the harness coming from the stator to the r/r and found a little charring. Pulled the stator cover( didnt know there was oil in there) and it looked good. My question is even though it appears my resistance readings are right at the r/r could that be why my battery isnt charging. Oh and thanks Hatter for that link, definitly the way to go once I actually figure out my problem.
If you're seeing any heat-sign, that's not good. Usually, if you catch it in the early
stages, the stator will be fine. I would start looking for a new r/r.
I personally went with a new, aftermarket Electrosport. However I have not heard anything bad about the Rick's either. Your other options are a: the upgraded OEM
(be sure it has finned, heatsink) or b: a lot of folks have had good luck with a used
750/900 GSXR.

Ricks is where I got the one ive got on there now. It has the finned heat sink but i will defer to your opinion. Ive heard aout guys burning up 2 or 3 r/r's before getting a good one so if you think thats the problem thats what ill fix first. Might take me a week or so to get itbut thanks for the help.
If I remember correctly, Rick's does a 1 year warrenty. Here's a link for checking the diodes...

See my signature, (the part in astericks) though before you leap too far.
Take the time to run the diagnostics yourself. I'd hate to hear you went to all the
time and money, taking my opinion for fact...and then it didn't fix the problem. ;-)
