Maybe... the valve was out of adjustment in a way that caused it to vibrate and chatter a lot, so it just kinda beat away at those keeper rings until the valve escaped? Also, a failing/failed valve spring can lead to excessive seat chatter/oscillations under certain circumstances. Howzabout that one, eh?

Too bad you don't have a Ducati Race Rep bike. Wouldn't have valve springs to worry about then...
