Default Throttle cable slack

My F2 has some slack in the throttle grip. It feels like there is about one cm of free play before the cable picks up and the engine responds.

I have no experience with other F2's so I was wondering if this is normal or has the cable stretched and it's time for a new one? Is there any way of adjusting the cable? I had a look through the manual and didn't notice anything about the throttle or adjusting it.

Thanks for any thoughts.

A little cable stretch is normal. If you look on the underside of the throttle housing where the cable exits, you'll notice a portion of the cable has a hex shape to it. Dialing this outwards (ie unthreading) will take out some of the slack. You want a tiny amount of slack in it for smooth operation, and check that it doesnt bind from lock to lock on the steering. If thats not enough adjustment, you can adjust it more at the carb end of the cable. It should be smooth when you roll on and off, otherwise suspect a frayed cable in need of replacement.

If I recall correctly, One of the manuals I have - the Haynes prolly - states about 1/8" of free play in the cables is recommended.

All of the downloadable Honda F2 Shop Manuals are missing the "general information" section that states stuff like that - but the F3 manual you can find for download does have it - the specs for free play should be the same between the 2 machines. The Honda F3 shop manual states Throttle Grip Free play should be 2-6mm ( 1/12" - 1/4") - so I was in the ballpark.

Default Problem sorted

Thanks for the info guys. I do seem to be missing that general info section from my manual so I'll check the F3 version.

I followed up on buickid's comment and found the cable adjustment nut under the right bar. A few turns and it took some of the slack right out of the cable. There was enough slack that it was making it hard to blip the throttle while I was braking for downshifts but after the adjustment it's much more comfortable.

Thanks for the help.
