What year is your F2? Set up should be similar....but if you search everywhere and cannot fund? Then likely PO bypass the fuel filter?? Try to find your year F2 diagram, it should be located after the petcock.
Did you pull the plug? It may be bad....no fuel filter?

Thanks again Estate, you've really been helpful. On my 93 the tank has the petcock, one larger hose goes to the carbs, one small hose that goes to the engine (suction line?) and two that are vent hoses (?) that just hang down. If there's a fuel pump and filter on this bike am not seeing it. I'm going to the dealer today for plugs and an oil filter so I'll ask them if there's a fuel filter. Thanks again for all your help.

OMG....PO may have this bike set up as gravity feed....meaning the fuel pump may have gone bad and then he bypass both the pump & fuel filter....it does work for the time being....but the thing about gravity feed is once you park bike, you gotta shut off petcock...or esle gas will flood into carb....that explains why you have gas on the plugs...plugs goes bad....maybe get a sparks here and there + too much gas...back fire....

There are many possible causes when bike back fires....among one is a foul plug...a bad spark plug. Sometimes cleaning and re-gapping can help but if you were to replace new ones, I've used the iridium ones...best is no gapping...just install & go...in Tort93F2 case, looks like the previous owner bypass the fuel pump + fuel filter. Then maybe park the bike & did not shut off petcock, gas flooded carb repeatedly...in time, mess up the spark plug...so if sparks don't ignite consistently, it will not idle properly...then too much gas...and spark will combust!!! Causing backfiring. I'm just guessing but it does sound like that's the case.
So he must reinstall a fuel pump and filter, then new spark plugs, check the coil wire for corrosion... then clean the carburetor....basically a major tune...& fuel pump
