Default Noisy Rattle noise

Hello all
I was riding my F2 cbr home from work yesterday, really hot day. As i was getting off a main road & changed down gear the bike cut out & just red light on dash( ithink this is oil light). Tried to start the bike and no noise or anything when starter button pressed ? . Left it for 10 mins & then on start i get a slow turn over almost like battery is getting flat ?. I though maybe regulator but go bike home & checked this which i change less than a year ago & not burnt out.
I checked oil & all ok.
After about one hour when bike all cooled down she starts no problem but wow she has a rattle. I give a slight amount of gas & noise decreases but with no gas it has a rattle.
Any ideas you lovely people.
i am close to retirement & have another bike for last 2 months of getting to work & both bikes will be sold so if this one proves to be a lot of agro i will just sell it as is. She has been a fantastic bike & is an absolute joy to ride ( boo hoo....) :-(

Could be the Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT). See the sticky above on CCT.

You have to 'navigate' up to the F2 forum page, then as follows below or just copy and paste link.

Hi All

Just an update - i changed the CCT & there is still a little rattle but a lot better but on the way to work the battery went flat at the end of the journey, about 26 miles. I put the bike ob charge & battery sits nicely at over 12V. When i start the bike up the battery voltage does not increase. I checked the RR & i think i had the correct settings on the multi meter & the RR gave constant readings but then when i checked the connector coming from the Stator the 3 yellow cables gave no reading. Again , i think i am using the multi meter correctly.

Before i sell the bike as is with a ''Stator problem'' are there any little nuggets of info anyone can give me. It would be a shame to get rid of her as she has been a trusted stead & i only wanted another 2 months out of her as i retire from the rat race & i could have let her go as a runner

If you have no continuity between the coils of the stator, it's dead Jim :-(

they are not expensive though - I think this is the right one at $56? https://www.ebay.com/itm/28116369970...3ABFBM5MHB06pi

From your description, it's your reg/rec that is dead. It's preventing your battery from charging. Common problem on F2.
If the wires at your reg/rec aren't burnt, then the easiest thing to do is get a new OEM reg/rec.

Stators very rarely go bad on F2. They also output AC, so unless you switch to AC on the meter, it wouldn't read anything.
