Never experienced this before, but its also a motor i just swapped in with 9k. Anyways, the motor runs great no knocking fast as hell and loves being on 1 wheel lol. however, when i go first to second it'll ride for a bit then hop back into neutral on its own... Kinda freaky but it only does it in second once it hits a certain rpm, every other gear is fine. I do still have my older motor so i can swap w.e i need to over just gotta let me know what to swap. sounds like you've got worn out dogs on the 2nd gear - very common for a lot of bikes. Possibly a bent shift fork.

2nd gear is really fat and puts a lot of torque on the drivetrain in hard acceleration.

If your old gearbox didn't do it, and you have it laying around, then yeah, I'd probably swap them out. Actually, I'd look into having your spare gearset sent off for an undercut job, and baby the current setup til they come back. Then swap out.
