Default High speed hesitation...

Right off the bat, carbs have been THOROUGHLY and properly cleaned and are adjusted correctly. I have full acceleration and pull through first and second gear, but once I reach a cruising speed around 50+, I basically lose all power!

Its not so much a "bog". literally feels like the power is being flickered on and off, the more throttle the more it sputters. But slam it down a gear and I'm on my way again....

I have tested the pulse generator and ignition coil with an ohm meter, they are both in spec.

Plugs are brand new after helicoil kit was recently put in for the 2nd cylinder.

what the HELL can be causing me this devastation!?

Is there a unit that adjusted the spark at higher speeds that I can test?

Please help!

I tested mine with a voltmeter and it seemed to be in spec? What else could be causing this? I've been through my service manual too many times. :/ Its just the oddest problem I've ever had, pulling as hard as ever through my gears and not being able to cruise.

Cruising throttle is heavily influenced by pilot jet settings and needle profiles. Both bikes sound like they are lean surging/backfiring. Try 1/4 to 1/2 turn out on the pilots. You may even raise the needle one clip higher if you have a jetting kit. Shimming stock needles with tiny washers will also work. Radio Shack.

When you go heavy on the throttle and down a gear, you get on to the main jet and it pulls hard until you go partial throttle again.

I am running a little lean, but have adjusted all the pilots a half turn, I noticed some of the popping going away, but not all. However the hesitation is the same. I do not have a jetting kit. If my needles got mixed up during re-assembly could that be the cause?

I taped off about 1/4 of my k&n and it seems a little better but does it around 65 mph or so. the weird thing is it runs fine when im doing like 40 but when it starts acting up i get on my road and when i do 35 or 40 it starts surging even though before it acts up it doesnt surge at that speed. i noticed after taping it off when i choke it it doesnt race up like it used to unless i hit the throttle real quick with the choke on

sounds like both of your bikes need to richen up the needles. Lower the clips one or two notches. The stock needles will need to be raised by putting one or two tiny washers under the stock needles. Stock jets are 135's, which are bigger than the dynojet kit 126s, but thats okay, because the stock needles are also thicker and the taper favors emissions not power.

Thank you for the advice! I turned all the pilots another 1/2 turn and the hesitation basically cleared up. I believe another quarter or half turn and it will be gone completely. I am currently at 6 more, 1/4 turns out from the stock pilot setting.
