Default fuel valve question

Just got my. Carbs cleaned out and a float needle replaced. Just took an hour ride to my mother's house. Two hours later I left and realized I didn't turn the gas back on. Then I thought maybe I shut the vLve off thinking I turned it on? So my question is....
How long can you go without shutting the fuel valve off before you gotta worry about causing problem? Two hours too long?

thanks,
Kevin

You dont have to shut the fuel valve off as long as the petcock is working properly. Meaning, the vacuum from the little hose coming off the engine to the petcock is what makes fuel flow through the petcock to the carbs. So if the engine is not running there is no vacuum making the fuel flow. But on a side note, I turn mine off if its going to sit for a while or a couple days or longer, but I dont bother turning it off in between sessions at the track day. But I do turn it off overnight at the track.
