Default Charging problem any help

1994 600 fr reg/ rectifier fried was riding to work and battery went flat,so put on trickle charge while at work and when restarted charge was low on tickover 12.01v,bring revs up was charging 12.8vat 2/3000 revs,so brought revs up above 5000 revs charged at above 18 volts and reg popped and fried ,could it be just r/r fault or could fault be somewhere else, fingers crossed I can get back riding it without fault happening again

Yeah. Thats the regulator portion of it. Keeps the voltage down. Replace the r/r and you should be fine.

Might also need a fresh battery as there's no telling gow long it's been overcharged with too high voltage so the insides might be damaged. But as Corruptfile said it's the r/r, as it's name states it regulates the voltage and rectifies the AC current generated by the alternator to DC voltage to the battery and the system.

At least I would buy a new one since they aren't that expensive and does play a key instrument in the possible roadside blues...
