What do you mean engine number?
Or do you mean VIN #?
Vin is on the steering neck, the displacement is on the cylinder bores.
and any of the stampings on the cases are usually on the front of the engine below the exhaust ports right near where the cases split. may also be on the rear where the swingarm pivot is where the cases split.... On my gsx-r it is right above the clutch cover, but not on my 929.

Trying to get this salvaged bike title. I bought it and on the bill of sale it has a spot for motorcycle engine number.
When I bought my first bike (sv650s) It was done like this, however the guy helped me get the title, this guy has somehow disappeared off the face of the earth when I am trying to get the title.

ing myself for being so dumb to hand over money before I got the title, but hopefully I'll have the title today if I can figure out the engine number.

That really sucks!!
It would be easier if they defined what Engine Number means.
I think they mean the displacement! that would make sense to me.
but then again who knows, i know in canada there is no mention of the displacement on the ownership as we call it here. Thats all encoded in the vin and the only people who care about it are the insurance brokers!!

Well according to the Haynes manual for the F3, the engine # is stamped on the right hand side of the crankcase. There's a picture but it's too difficult to ID the specific area by the surrounding parts
i know what you mean but i dont think there is an engine number... in that spot, i always put the size of the motor... Most 600cc's are 599. Minus a few bikes like 636 (kawasaki ninja) or 649 (sv650)
Just took a look at my 929 and right above the clutch cover towards the back of the motor there is a raised boss that has a number stamped in it. Its the Engine code from factory, just like my gsx-r. However I still believe they are looking for the displacement. Either way write them both down, go to the dmv and ask them, then write in which ever one they want!!
