Default Is there an easier way?

'02 954 with 28k miles. I have two stripped screws holding the left stock velocity stack with one of those being in the rear. I'm pretty sure I can get the one on the left with an easy out, but what about the rear which I can only barely see now without any tools in the way? I have two options I'm thinking of: 1. remove the tank (looks like a big hassle) & may not help with the rear screw or 2. cut off the velocity stack so I can get to the screw with drill & easy out & buy a replacement stack off ebay. Can anyone think of any other options or have successfully tried something else? As a winter project I was going to clean and sync the throttle bodies, replace a throttle cable, and find a small part I had dropped under the airbox somewhere.

Happy New Year

Steve

jbweld a screw driver to it and turn. That might not work, but I would remove the tank if it will help. How hard could it be?

Go after the Tank. Its not that hard to remove. You may get lucky and have enough wiggle room after you unbolt the tank to get at the screw! Its worth a shot. If not....I like your idea of whacking the V. stacks! Just order some HRC or other Hi-performance sets! Nothing wrong with adding some HP!

I didn't feel like messing with the tank because I would have to disconnect a lot of stuff and probably drain the tank. I used an angle grinder to hack off the top of the stack and then used a dremel to cut away the plastic around the screws. I then used an ez out on the screws. If you decide to try this be aware that plastic pieces fly everywhere - I cut cardboard to fit in the throttle body and then vacuumed everything up when I was done. I ordered an airbox with stock stacks off ebay - I've read mixed reviews about aftermarket stacks.
