Speedometer alternatives?
Well if i can find the speedo harness it seems, according to those who have swapped 954’s into their 929 chassis, that it’s just an issue of repinning the plug and the only functionality i’m losing is the fan switch and some lighting control.
....but....it occurs to me just now that i might be assuming something important and doing so based on my more comprehensive experience with suzuki projects. One of the primary functions i’m trying to retain is the speedometer. How does the 954 get the speed signal? Is it a hall sensor mounted to the drive sprocket?

Picks up off an exciter on the output shaft inside the trans. Look on your case on the top of the transmission and you will see it.
On my Harley, i put a pick up that goes on the rear axle that uses the heads of the bolts as a trigger. The speedo is programmable to translate the pulses to road speed. I can get you some details if you think that might be the way for you. Might even work with the existing speed sensor.

Yep just got home and went and looked...it's a typical hall sensor. I need to find the notch count on the outputshaft so I can get a rotor machine to match up with it. I'll be able to just re-route the sensor like you say...to a rotor on the rear wheel.
It would only matter if you are using a stock speedo. If you use a signal altering device like a speedo healer or use a programmable speedo, it shouldn't matter that much.
i’ll be driving (andshifting) a 5-speed suzuki transmission with the motor so i won’t be able to get the signal off the output shaft. The CBR engine will remain in fourth or fifth mist of the time so the output shaft will not offera consistent speed related to wheel speed. The buggy is already setup to usea hall sensor on one of the rotors...i’ll just need to calculate the correct number of teeth to for a new signal ring to getthespeed correct.
