Default So what gearing combo can I get without changing the chain?

Is it -1 front and +1 rear?

Depending on where your chain adjusters are i would say probably just -1 up front. -1 feels real good so no need for the +1 in the rear. Even with +1 you wont make a significant difference...just go -1 and you'll be good!

Depending on how old the chain and sprockets are,if they have been on there for over 1k miles.I would replace them all together as a set. Then again you can do what ever you want.

replace it all together if the chain isn't new. if the chain has a wear pattern in it currently, the chain and your new sprockets will wear 2x as fast, which in the end, won't save you any money.

i'm -1/+2 (pimpin' is right, +1 in the back will make almost no difference). i love it. i still get great gas mileage. it is more wheelie happy. you shift a whole lot more (which i don't mind at all). i've got close to 10k miles on my 520 (its the lightest, and cheapest as opposed to 525 and 530), and the chain and sprockets are still in pretty good condition, i figure i may get another 5-10k miles on it.

if the chain you have now is in good condition still, you could probably sell it to some racers (drag or track). they try different sprocket combos all the time for different set ups, so they don't care about wear patterns. and if this is your street ride, like i said before, you won't be saving any money long term by keeping the chain you have now (if it has a wear pattern that is).

I ordered a 15T sprocket to see what it feels like. If it doesn't give me the oomph I'm looking for then I'll just order a new chain with front and rear sprockets. I might go with a 520 chain because I will only put 3k miles per year on this bike, since I have another bike.

Not looking to save money, but the chain and sprockets only have 4,000 miles on them as far as I know, so it seems like a waste to change them all now, but I want some more oomph now! Rear sprocket looks new, besides some oxidation from being 9 years old.

I got the pro tek sprocket and all ready changed it. I haven't ridden it yet, but will try it tomorrow. I couldn't believe it said made in America on it.

My stock sprocket looked brand new, just like the rear. I couldn't properly torque the rear axle nut, because I don't have a 31mm socket!
