RE: Shift fork question
well they are marked for left center and right. Center is the easy one where the locating pin is very different than the other two. the Left and Right are only slightly different which looks to be the angle where the shift fork engages the slot in the gear. I'm not sure which one engages 1st or 2nd but when they are refering to left and right. Left side is the alternator side, and the right side is the clutch side. As if you were standing behind the tail section looking towards the front and the engine installed in the frame. Besides they tend to make things that are oriented for a certain location different so when you install it incorrectly, it won't go in at all, all the way, or if it does go in the thing it is doing won't function. So after you get your left and right settle, assembled it and you should shift threw the gears manually before you put anything else together.

RE: Shift fork question
Thank you SurfnSCal I have no problem with what shift fork goes where I know they are all marked I have the Service manual but what the manual dose not tell me is what shift fork works the first to second shift. I need to replace the fork that in gauges second gear. What I do not know is if it's the left center or right fork that in gauges second gear. I like to order the fork so I can replace it.

RE: Shift fork question
you are replacing the gear also right? The only reason why shift forks bend is because the engagement dogs on the gear are getting rounded and it takes added pressure to keep it in gear, and when you get around to having to hold it in gear with the shift lever you tend to burn forks and bend them. According to the pics it looks like the right side fork is te one that engages 1st gear, while the left side fork is the one the engages 2nd gear. what gear is it that you are having problems with staying in gear? From the pics it looks like 5th gear slider on countershaft is what engages 1st gear, and 6 gear slider engages 2nd gear. So if you are popping out of gear in 1st you should replace 1st and 5th gear together for the countershaft, and if you are popping out of 2nd gear then you should replace 2nd and 6th gear on the countershaft ( the shaft that the front sprocket bolts onto) Don't forget to get new circlips that secure the gears onto the shaft. cheap insurance.
