rattling noise??
On my 03 954 there is a small but audible rattling sound that is more predominent at cold idle. I'm thinking the cam chain needs adjusted but it's a guess. I've heard that the manual cct's are the way to go. Any suggestions?
Brew sorry but you should not jump to that conclusion immediatly. If you have a lot of miles on the bike it could be a cct not just the normal noise. If you do need a cct i would go with the manual, i put mine in 20k miles ago and never had a problem since. For what its worth mine failed at about 15k miles, however that seems pre mature to most.
Bike has 8300 miles on it and i'm new to the bike so i'm not familiar with it yet. Maybe it's normal, I don't know. Anyone have a link to good info on the cct? How do I check it? Is the stock cct self adjusting?
Mine has 8700 miles on it and does the same thing. Its pretty loud on cold start, but once it gets warm after about a minute the main "rattling" goes away and there is just some valve train noise. Is this the sound you are talking about?
These 954's make a lot of valve noise from the ones I've heard and from people talking about it on here.

I would now tend to agree with Brew, with that low of miles its probably just the normal 954 rattle. And Brew i hope i didnt come off like an ***, just that for all we knew he could have had 40k miles on it and needed other work, just didnt want him to fly out riding if something really could have been wrong.
As far as the cct, it will usually start to make a rattle noise around 3-5 thousand rpm's warm or cold.
