The tubes slide into 954 triples, or do I need to use 1000rr triples? What front wheel and rotors? 954 or 1000rr?

all you need:

1000rr forks
1000rr calipers
1000rr rotors

you use from the the 954:
triple tree
axle
wheel
spacers

I think the 1k forks are a little shorter which will lower the front end and can make steering seem quicker. You are better off to rebuild your current forks with springs for your weight and gold valves.

all you really get by switching over is the updated look of the radial brakes. it's not like the actual valve in the fork is better - i think they're about the same, so from a "handling" statement, backdoc is correct. but before you go thinking that this is going to cost a lot of money, i actually MADE money converting over to 1000rr forks. i was easily able to sell my 954 forks for more money than i bought the 1krr forks for. i also made money on the calipers for the 954 vs the 1000rr.

so its up to you. i think it's like 10 or 15mm shorter than the 954 (so only about 1/2 inch) and is hardly noticeable - especially for us - even with the occasional trackday thrown into the mix.

it's about looks and style. if you want your bike to look newer - go for it

What year 1000rr are we talking about? Has anyone found a rear shock that works?

04-07. 04/05 uses 310mm brakes, 06/07 uses 320mm. thats the only difference between the two generations. and really, it's not even that. the fork is actually the exact same - but honda made a little spacer to fit on the end of the 06/07's that pushes the caliper back another 5mm to use 10mm bigger discs. those mount up right to a 954 triple.

after 08, i think they changed up a bit. but i may be wrong. i know for a fact that '12 and up will not work.

of course though, if you have access to a press, that opens up a whole slew of other options. then, those other years would start working out for you. the fork diameters may be different, but if you can change the stem, you can use their triple trees
