Just wanted to introduce myself. I became a proud owner of a 2003 CBR954RR yesterday. Picked it up from an estate sale. The bike has 10,000miles and it is spotless! It has been sitting in a heated storage facility for the past three years.
I went yesterday to the storage facility with a new battery in hand and a container with some fresh 92 octane gas. Checked the bike by rolling it and making sure brakes werent seized which they were not luckily. I shook the bike from side to side to hear if it had any gas in and it sounded like there was a little bit on the bottom of the tank. I did not have the means to drain it at the time so i just poured 5L of new gas on top.
Plug the new battery in, turn the ignition on accessories mode all electricals work like a brand new bike. All signals, horn, lights, tach and instrumentation all work flawlessly.
Put the kill switch to prime the fuel pump and attempt to start the bike it just keeps cranking forever. It sounds like it was getting no fuel. I started to get frustrated as to why it wouldnt start... power was good, new gas.
So anyways long story short ( i was in a bad mood so i wasnt checking for the obvious) then it clicks in to me that everytime i hit the kill switch for the fuel pump i wouldnt hear the fuel pump coming on... im looking at the battery and there is an extra wire on the positive side, i trace the wire to a bike alarm with an ignition immobilizer. The installer has tapped into the fuel pump to prevent theft. Luckily i was able to find the remote for the alarm so i wouldnt have to dig into the wiring and bypass the alarm.
I am going to bring the bike home on a trailer today. She is gorgeous i simply cannot wait to ride it. I plan on putting some fresh Pirelli Diablo Supercorsas on it, new chain, new spark plugs, new air filter. i just ordered some fresh EBC brake pads for the front and the rear.
The bike was owned by a mature gentleman and only had the one owner so it was very well looked after.
Happy to be a part of this forum. I am sure i will have questions for you guys as i bring this baby back to daily rider condition.
Great find!! Sounds like youll be on the road soon discovering why the 954 is the best bike out there, IMO...lol, i fell in love with mine when i first bought her, 30k miles later still in love. Honda makes great motors as long as you feed them and pet them they will love you back.
Great score - just wondering if you got your starting/immobilizer problem sorted out. Hope you did and all is going well - looking forward to an update :-)
Great story, sounds like mine! Picked up this exact bike with those exact miles a week ago.. Just doing some maintenance for the season then wait for the weather to change. I ran an 05 600rr before this so no idea what i'm in for..
