Default Need help on getting Tank Painted

So i bought new grey and black oem fairings for my bike. problem is gas tank is black with red stripes. Sense its clear coated it would be a pain to get the stripes off and probably look bad. So i would like to get it painted but my question is what would be a normal price for the tank to get painted. ive gotten one quote so far for around 350. I was thinking this is way to much. I might as well buy a new tank if it cost that.

Any help or tips would be great!
thanks

Actually thats a very fair price considering. The tank stripes will have to be sanded smooth, any imperfections also need to be addressed. Then primer and wet sanded and then finally ready for paint. That will then need to be wet sanded before clearing. Then again wet sanded. Then buffed out. 350 is cheap!!!

For my gsxr, it costed me $250 including decal removal, fix dent and repaint. But if you just need to take the decals off, you can do it yourself. All you need is WD40 and hairdryer. It will come out easy. You would have to lazer blade outline of the decals because there is clear coat over it.

Sanding down is a hassle if you do on your own. And if you decided to paint on your own, please make sure you use mask.. haha. .. I made a mistake and was sanding and painting without it. I got paint poisoning and was sick for a week

I can say that you won't buy a new tank for sure less then 350. I'll bet the tank alone is twice that. I'm giving you honesty. I do alittle paint work with a very well known custom painter and just to throw a base coat color on that tank would cost you that at minimal.

that's a lil high....

but not unreasonably high. i had the repsol one done for $300, but he had to take a LOT of imperfections out of it.... (small dings, scuffed up marks, etc.). custom blended paint because to match a fairing i had brought him. then decals. clear.

but hey.... there's ways to get around it. you can get a mint one on ebay for 350.... then sell yours (if it's mint) and make it back. if yours is in terrible condtion, you could still get around $100 out of the fuel pump and then probably another $50 out of the damaged tank (with a huge dent in it)

the basic rule is - the more you wait, the better the deal you'll eventually find.

and another rule is - squeeze every last dime out of what you have (like the tank you don't need anymore)
