idles, starts and runs, dies after driving in gear
hello all!
my 03 954 after a fresh start, she'll idle and can rev, but after putting her in gear and driving down the road, at the very first stop, i have to hold the throttle a small bit open to keep her from dying. after dying and starting back up in 1st, she'll start back up but still have to hold throttle a little bit open to keep her running. i personally think a stator or rectifier, but im not sure exactly. please help!
thanks - Paul

My first thought is one of your vacuum hoses is off causing a leak. You could turn up your idle, but if it takes a lot then you're compensating for another problem.
yea, i already adjusted the idle up to about 1200. i originally thought it was that because i had it around 800, but i still get the same problem when coming to a stop. it just won't hold idle when stopping. she's been sitting unridden for quite a while, maybe a few years. i'm tempted to pull all the essentials and do a fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, clean gas tank, just an overhaul, but i would like to not to have too. ill check the vacuum hoses sometime today. i initially would think that a leaky vacuum hose would create the same problem at idle and not only when in gear and pulling to a stop. its really elluding me because it doesnt do it when i initially start it, and even after putting in gear without driving anywhere. its only after i drive down the street and then come to a stop sign or a turn around does it die.
Is there enough air getting into the Tank? I have a similar issue on my F2. Managed a 10 mile ride to work, 8 miles back home and it died. Then it died half a mile further up the road then again. Initially I was approaching a red light on a 50mph bypass near my house. Pulled the clutch in to drop a gear and it just died.
My brother went our for a spin on it yesterday and came back with the fuel filler cap open saying he thinks the tank is not getting enough air so its causing a vacuum and starving the tank of fuel.
I am hoping that's the issue, I want to go riding again!
