Default Hyperactive low fuel warning light

One thing I noticed is that my 2002 954RR throws the low fuel warning light on very regularly. The first time I saw it, I believed it and ducked in to get fuel...but could tell that the tank was pretty full and only got about 1.3 gallons in. The next time, on a known full tank, I reset my trip counter and then waited to see what would happen. The low fuel warning light went off with about 17 miles ridden, then turned off for a while before coming back on again. I've got about 40 miles on the tank now and the light has come on and off a few more times...and sometimes it stays on steadily.

I keep checking the fuel level by physically opening the tank and shaking it to hear the fuel slosh around, and know that I have plenty left. However, it's a bit unnerving to keep seeing that darn light come on and off, so I'm hoping that others here may have seen or dealt with this issue before? Any thoughts as to what I might investigate first?

Thanks all!

looks like your low-fuel sensor is on the fritz. that's probably whats going on, so you may have to replace that. make sure all of the connections are good first
